MICHAEL KRATZ

Michael Kratz has always believed that great songs outlive musical trends. Throughout a career spanning more than four decades, that belief has shaped everything from his years as a professional drummer to his work today as a singer, songwriter and recording artist.

Long before stepping into the spotlight as a solo artist, Kratz established himself as one of Denmark’s most respected professional drummers. For more than twenty years, he toured extensively with some of the country’s biggest names, contributing to countless live performances and recordings that have collectively sold more than one million albums. Those years provided not only invaluable experience on stage but also laid the foundation for his own approach to songwriting, production and performance.

In 2012, Kratz released his debut solo album, Cross That Line, marking the beginning of a new chapter as a recording artist in his own right. The album introduced listeners to a distinctive blend of melodic rock, West Coast and pop influences that would become his musical signature.

Since then, he has released Live Your Life (2018), the live album Live Your LIVE (2018) and TAFKATNO (2021). He is currently preparing the release of his fourth studio album, continuing a musical journey driven by craftsmanship, curiosity and an unwavering passion for songwriting.

Inspired by the golden era of American West Coast music of the late 1970s and beyond—exemplified by artists such as Toto and The Doobie Brothers—as well as the melodic sophistication of British New Wave acts like Duran Duran, Kratz has developed a musical identity that is unmistakably his own. Rather than following trends or chasing genres, he focuses on writing timeless songs built around memorable melodies, thoughtful arrangements and honest storytelling.

A firm believer that great music is created through collaboration, Michael Kratz has worked with an impressive roster of internationally acclaimed musicians, including Steve Lukather, Mike Landau, David Garfield and Duran Duran guitarist Dom Brown. He also maintains a close creative partnership with Danish producer, songwriter and multi-instrumentalist Kasper Skadhede Viinberg. Together they oversee every aspect of the creative process—from the first songwriting sessions and arrangements to the final mixes—always striving to serve the song above everything else.

Away from the studio, Kratz remains a highly active live musician, performing between 60 and 80 concerts every year. Whether fronting his own projects or appearing as a guest artist on international releases, the stage continues to play a vital role in shaping his music. The direct connection with audiences keeps his songwriting grounded and authentic, bringing the energy and emotion of live performance into every recording.

Today, Michael Kratz continues to build a catalogue defined by strong songwriting, world-class musicianship and a genuine love for melodic music. While musical trends come and go, his ambition remains unchanged: to write songs that people will still want to listen to years from now.
